The Department of English, Faculty of Education, Charles University has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism.
Simply stated, plagiarism is using any ideas and/or words from other people – whether from another student’s essay, a newspaper, a magazine/journal, a book, the Internet, etc. without reference.
A student must always use only his/her own ideas and words. If a student uses any words or ideas that are not his/her own, he/she must show exactly where in the essay. For example, the Bc. Thesis in English requests the MLA (Modern Language Association) citation style, i.e., in-text citation – (Jones 256) – where Jones is the author and 256 is the page number – and by citing the source in a Works Cited (the bibliography) page.
Please note: The instructor of each individual course/advisor of a thesis may require his/her own, differing, citation style.
If a student does not adhere to the English department’s rules regarding plagiarism, his/her plagiarized essay will be failed, submitted to the Faculty of Education’s Disciplinary Board and his/her studies may be terminated at the department (depending on the final decision of the Disciplinary Board).
